I am not talking about the alcohol content.. what I care about it the rest. We all know that if you drink too much beer you get a beer belly... but what about vodka? Is a shot of vodka like taking a can of beer? just wondering because I prefer hard stuff to beer......

Thanks.

I'd think it's not very good for the parts of your body it streams across. Also, you're bound to get liver problems with excessive alcohol.

You know how you puke if you take in too much alcohol at once? The gag reflex kicks in only when your body feels the need to expunge something, and fast. That should be really enough information for anybody.

Oh, yes, and if the liquid you're drinking is partially flammable (esp. hard liquor) that should also catch your attention. ;)

Sorry for not answering your question, but your question kinda shocked me. I don't know how old you are, most of the members here are generally pretty young. Taking that into consideration, I feel an obligation to warn you that preferring the 'hard stuff' can kill you. It d*mn near killed me, but that was because I allowed it to gain control of my life. And Vodka was what d*mn near killed me.....

Be careful dude. Hard stuff can be viscious sh*t! -kd5-

if you leave out the alcohol, hard liquors consist mainly out of water.

I'd be more worried about eating at McDonald's than drinking a glass of Vodka if you're concerned how many calories this glass contains.

Yup.

Age is no problem ... dont worry about that. I am just wondering how hard liquor compares to beer. As I said, everyone knows what a beer belly is, but is there a vodka belly? 6 shots = about 6 beers. Which would be better for a person to have on an average night?

Once again, I dont care about the alcohol content.. just about how it will fatten me up.

Couldn't be more true. Somebody once said that Coffee is more toxic than liquor. Then again, I've never drank a 12pack of Coffee in one sitting and threw it up.:)

MYTH!

Unhealthy foods give you a "beer belly," not beer for god's sake. Beer has no fat whatsoever, and it has very few carbohyrdrates. It's just a bunch of empty calories. If you ate a healthy diet but had beer, you wouldn't get a "beer belly." People make it sound like beer is the sole cause....no you numbnuts! It's the potato chips that you have with your beer!

and alchohol in moderation can improve mental clarity since it targets dying brain cells. When you wake up and don't remember anything, then you know you drank more than moderately cause it screwed up something that you needed. hehe

(btw, I am always trying to justify my alcohol escapades, but i know the beer belly stuff i mentioned is 100% true)

Parly correct, Kami. Weight gain is all a matter of (calories in - calories burned). If you take in too many calories, you're going to gain weight. It doesn't matter if those extra calories are in the form of beer, grain alcohol, Pringles, beet juice, tofu, or whatever. Some call this weight gain a "beer belly", some call it a "pot belly", some call it the "spare tire". Whatever you call it, it's just your body's little way of telling you not to shove so much crap into your gaping maw. :)

Yeah, stop being a pansy and just drink. Jeez. Don't make me tell you again.

BTW, don't get addicted and don't overdo it on any one night. You can die from hard liquor real easy because it catches up with you a lot faster than beer.

beer is bread in a liquid form. it has a lot of calories. alcohol is pretty high calories itself.

as for targeting dying braincells, thats complete and utter BS.

For almost 30 years I've had Jack Daniels over my cereal, every morning, for breakfast. Look at me now! I'd post a picture but we aren't allowed photos here at the asylum.

then why do they recommend a glass of wine a day? for the grapes?!? why not drink some juice if that's the reason.

something like 200,000 neurons in your head die every day...of course the alcohol is going to be more effective on those cells that are "dying," and when you have less "dying" cells your mental clarity/repsonsiveness/etc. should improve. i remember seeing this on some medical studdy on discovery channel or the learning channel (one of those educational ones). alcohol doesn't actually KILL cells (in the Cerebellum), but can speed up the death of the bad cells. that's a very vague explanation but it went something like that...I don't remember the details.

'They' recommend a glass of wine a day because it makes the blood 'thinner', thereby avoiding coagulations in your veins. About the same effect as aspirin, thus.

red wine has lots of tannins and thats why they say its alright to have a glass with food a day. if it was just the alcohol you could just have a can of beer or a shot of whiskey. but no, its specifically red wine. but no one is sure if it has something to do with the combination of libations with food.

Vodka has 0 calories. It's just alcohol with water.

As for the adverse effects of alcohol, 10 drinks is 10 drinks. 5 drinks is 5 drinks. It doesn't matter if you get your 10 drinks from a glass of whisky, 5 glasses of wine or 10 beers.

nope, it target braincell that are most active and slowly kill your braincell little by little, until you forgetton everything. A little is good but most people drink it as if it water.
Drinking alcohol is like drinking detergent. It has no fat, but the fact that you eat more stuff when you drink is what makes you fat. It impairs your ability to think straight, gives you high fever and slow your body down to a crawl making you slur and clumsy.

Um, most people get beer bellies, not because of the calories in the beer, but because the alcohol causes liver damage. The liver begins to swell giving you a "beer belly."

Theoretically one could get a beer belly from hard liquor just as easily as from beer, but then again people usually drink much more beer than liquor.

Coffee is bad for you because the high caffine content. Some coffee has twice as much caffine as jolt cola. Most soda doesn't come close to normal coffees caffine content. You can overdose on caffine, its rare, but it does happen, and is fatal. Caffine is really bad for your heart. I don't think setting down and drinking 12 8oz cups of coffee would be a bright idea, nor would be drinking a 12 pack of beer.

Hmm, a couple comments:

1) alcohol in moderation is not poison. Too much alcohol is poison however.
2) A bottle of beer(350ml) = a glass of wine = a shot of liquor in alcoholic content
3) If you can't remember what happened last night or you are puking like there is no tomorrow, you've been drinking way too much! Too much of that and you'll be getting health problems in the future.
4) A slight "buzz" is always more enjoyable then being drunk.
5) If you must get whacked out of your head, smoke pot. You won't damage your body near as much and you and your friends will be more pleasant to be around.
