HOW TO???

I got suckered into believing that an internal modem would be ok from usworst.

Does anyone have any suggestions/solutions?

I have a linksys DSL router w/ built in 4 port switch that needs an external modem to be of any use...

Uswest has graciously offered to sell me an external dsl modem for $295...gee,

thank you sir, may I have another!

I have Bellsouth service. They offered me a modem from a company called Alcatel. The modem they were selling runs aroud $145(their price). I assume you might be able to find it cheaper. The only thing is you need to do research on the modem you purchase. You may have to also get an adapter for your modem....this is why:

Telephone cable consists of 4 wires. Black Red Green Yellow. In this service area for DSL, it runs on the same Red and Green wires that the phone service runs on. My modem, however, receives and sends on the Black and Yellow wires. So I had to get an adapter to switch cables...don't know the exact name of the adapter. But I would look into Alcatel, this modem seems to be really reliable and fairly attractive...black with 'Cisco style' leds on the front. Good luck on finding a cheap/good one.

I * believe * Uswest uses the Cisco 675 Dsl router, <is your internal card the Cisco 605?> Available on eba y from 150-200. I think i still have a spare one lying around i may be persuaded to part with.

He does need the Cisco 675 for USWest, to bad, I had an entire extra kit from USWest that I sold about a month ago for a $100

Here is a POSSIBLE solution, and I stress prossible because I've never done such a thing but seems logical.

My friend recenlt bought a Linksys DSL router w/4 port switch and I asked him if it's possible to just use the as a switch, and he said 'yes'. Here is what you can possible do, use your current internal modem but make the internet connection shared on your computer so that all other computers on the network can access the internet through your computer via the router. So essentially you're using your Linksys router as just a hub/switch to connect your network together.

Hope this helps and feel free to keep on posting if you have more questions/comments. Please keep us updated since I'm curious what your final result will be.
