I have this really quiet 120mm fan my dad scrounged off an old computer a while ago. Its 110v so now i have it wired with a standard powercable that plugs into the 110v out on my powersupply. I have a switch that i can turn it off and on with. My question is, "is there a way that I can wire it to automatically turn on when I turn on my computer rather than having to have an external switch?" I figure i might as well benifit from its cooling all the time seeing as i cant hear it when its on. can anyone help?

i don't know about wiring nor am I gonna tell you to open your PS. but the simplest solution I can think of is getting a 110v replay switch, commonly used by water pumps. could be one of those pci cards or just a switch.

It's a relay, not replay :p. but yes, you could have it hooked up the same way as some ppl power their water pumps. have the fan plugged in, either independantly into its own power socket or daisy chained from the PSU power cable. stick a (12v) relay on the fan's power cable, and have the relay switch be activated by the PSU's 12v rail.

Go to Criticool.com, they sell the PowerPlant PCI relay card. I have hooked two Hydor L30 water pumps to it with no probs. Good luck.
