To win you got to double down on 12, saw a guy win $1000 in one hand by doubling down on 12 and the dealer had an 8 showing!

doubling down on 12 isn't a terrible idea. I personall don't double down on anything other than a 10, but I have seen other who dd on 11s and 12s.

I double on 9s, 10s and 11s ... depending on the dealer's up card ... I mean, if he has a 6 and you've got 9 ... why not double. You might beat him outright ... and he's got a great chance of busting.

What's your advantage to doubling down on 10 but not 11?

If you play by the chart, you're still giving the casino money. (just not as much)

i double down on 9, 10, 11's, and particular Ace card combinations if my other card is low (not too low, ill resist on 2's and 3's) and i got to hit anyways and the dealer is showing a low card. 12 and above, i wont double down.

To win at Black Jack you need to master counting cards. It is challenging to do it correctly, and be smooth about it. But it is highly rewarding if you have enough capital to start. Trust me on that. ;)

I get drunk and double down on all sorts of stupid hands. After getting the "you're a crazed drunkard" look from the dealer I suprisingly do well. I made $1100 after being down $800 last time I was in vegas.

Then again, I'm probably just nuts. :D

My tactic is to get 21. I usually do that by bringing an ample supply of kings, quees, jacks, tens, and aces with me to the table. Everytime I do this the dealer gets so jealous of my hands that he throws me out of the casino.

Jerks.

An incredible book, I highly recommend it. MIT students and a former math genius develop card counting team strategy, incredibly entertaining.

Great book, I'm in the middle of reading it right now.

By the way, ManSnake, I urge you, and your idiot friend that's doubling a 12 with an 8 showing, to continue doing it. I'm sure the casino could use more of your money, as well as his. Everyone gets lucky once, but 9 times out of 10, you'll lose playing wildly like an idiot. I wonder what the other people at the table thought of that bonehead move. What did the dealer have under the 8? Did he bust?
Remember Vegas Vacation, the dealer says....."how about you give me all your money, I'll take you out back, kick you in the balls, and we'll call it a day!"

yes it is a terrible idea. 30% of the cards in the deck are worth 10, so all things being equal, you have a 30% chance of busting, unless the guy was counting cards - but that is pretty much impossible unless your playing single deck
