How to verify VIA chip driver version?

Is there a tool to tell me what Via drivers I'm using?
Sandra was no help ... unless I missed it.
Windows says a totally different driver version ...

Sure, locate the driver files, right-click > properties to display the file and version properties.

Well ... I still dont understand the driver version numbering....

Under Device Manager / System Devices / VIA CPU to AGP Contrller

Driver version = 5.0.0.410 ........ Microsoft SP3 update ????

This is what I saw when I posted.
The following after the Via Website update.

Driver version = 5.0.0.3430 ....... Via update - the Via update was actually 4.42 ...

So ... Am I looking in the right place ????

Im sure I had even different drivers installed when I installed the Radeon 9700.

Is Microsoft changing the driver numbering scheme???

This is why I asked ... I didnt think I was looking at the right driver.



BTW ... The updates I installed above (SP3 or Via) gave my 3dMark a shot in da arm ... 11,314 to 11,478

Find driver file VIAAGP1.SYS and look at the file>version properties. The last three numbers are the version...like 3420 is 4.20 and 3430 is 4.30. You can compare them with the listed driver changes at viaarena.com

Ok ... That's is correct ... I revisisted the release notes on the site... says that AGP driver is 4.05c

Under Device Manager / System Devices / VIA CPU to AGP Contrller

Does it list the driver file being used for VIA CPU to AGP Controller? You may need to fire up the registry and look at what driver is being used for the AGP Controller/GART. I'm not sure how to do that in W2K but the key in Win98SE is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VIAGART

I seem to recall there are two different file names, depending upon whether you've used the Microsoft W2K Hotfix/Service Pack or the VIA driver update. VIA's is VIAAGP1.SYS, but there may be another that is installed by the Service Pack.

They are essentially the same driver, one is considered "Provided by Microsoft" and the other is a third-party driver, thus the different file names. The "Provided by Microsoft" file is actually supplied to Microsoft by VIA.

Are you looking for where you can find 4.42? Run regedit. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Via4in1/. Should be somewhere in there
