Hello,

I have an AMD 64 4000+ with no monitor, keyboard or mouse. I would like to use my Dell Inspiron 630m laptop as the monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

How can I do this?

The desktop is my server. So it would be nice to plug in my laptop and change some stuff then unplug. Hopefully the solution won't be operating system specific because I would like to install OS's, format, etc... with this desired setup.

Thanks!

Can't be done while keeping the laptop in one piece.

Best i could reccomend is a remote desktop situation once an OS is installed and setup on the server.

Pciber has the best answer so far. There are numerous software terminal packages you could use or if you want to spend money, you could get a KVM that supports remote viewing (rose, avocent, etc)

Only for K& M sorry miss read the post! RDP with all the video and sound options on would not even be able to tell its a different machine.

Synergy works like a dream both need to be on the same network any OS (Linux inc.) its perfect!

Oh.... and its free :)

It will impress your mates thats for sure. I have seen it run over Win, OSX then Linux and back with out a glitch

what about just using the laptop as a monitor? So I can install an operating system on the desktop (the computer with no monitor).

Depends if your laptop has a "video in" type of thing. I really dont think your gona get the keyboard and mouse to work though, but those are just give away items!
