How to use a .dmg file in Windows?

how do i use the perl script? i use win xp. but, i have access to a open bsd shell... any help?

Isobuster?...maybe that does the conversion...or open it at least.

I tried that (ver. 1.5). But, it said Primary Volume Descriptor is unreadable. Read error at address: 16. Device Reported Error: 05/64/01.

Plus, it doesnt have .dmg in the OPEN FILE dialog's File Types at all!

What do I do?

Sounds like the second file is hosed- try opening it in Wordpad, and seeing what the first line of text (read: gibberish) says. If you see the word DMG in there, then it's most likely a DMG file, and also that it's corrupted.

Try this with the first file as well (although it will take a very long time to load into Wordpad, so I'd suggest Hex Workshop) to see if it has DMG in the file as well. If it does, the file's definitely corrupt.

If it's a different format to the smaller file, then maybe you need to find a utility that will work with this file type.

Tried that. Both the files didnt have DMG in the first line. But, the first file (that which worked) had this in the 5th or 6th line: TOAST ISO 9660 BUILDER COPYRIGHT (C) 1997 ADAPTEC, INC. - HAVE A NICE DAY

Sounds like they're both bog-standard ISOs then. I would say that the second file is corrupt- can you get it again (download etc)?

I asked him to e-mail another copy of the same file, and he sent it as .sit. I used stuffit expander to expand it and found a .dmg file inside. I opened it with wordpad, but, even this doesnt have dmg in the first line. This is the first line: x

Ok. It sounds like .dmg files are essentially ISOs anyway, so I wouldn't worry about the Wordpad thing any more.

Does the replacement file work? If not, you'll probably be better off with asking your friend to email a .sit of the actual files, rather than a .dmg.

No, they didn't work either. The problem is, he archived the files from a mac and tested the file there. It had worked. But, he also has only a PC, and access to no mac. What can I do?

Help use understand - these are Mac files - what would you do with them?

If they're simply data files, then just have him mount the DMG file on his desktop, then compress the files into a ZIP or SIT format file, and then mail you that file.

I might be able to do it tonight, as I have a working Apple emulator (PearPC) set up on my home machine (at work right now).

I don't know how I'm going to get it to transfer the file though.
