How to upgrade tablet with low amount of storage to Win 10

Hi everyone,

I have one of the cheapo Winbook Tablets with Windows 8.1 and only an 16 gb primary drive. I keep getting the pop-up to install Win 10, but when I do, it says there is not enough disk space.

I do have a slot for a flash drive. Is there any way to download and install Win 10 to that, or to somehow bypass the warning and install in on the built in flash (8gb) drive?

Seems strange that Win 10 designed for mobile requires so much disk space.

Edit: I did some more searching on the internet, and apparently you can attach an external drive to store the "backup to win 8" folder, but a lot of people had problems with this and others said Win 10 is still not very good for a tablet. Any comments on this?

Yes you can use the media creation tool and create a bootable flash drive for your tablet provided that you can access the start up menu and direct it to the flash drive. You can also access the flash drive from within windows and upgrade as well.

Good luck. If I were you I'd stick with Win 8.1. I ran into space problems on an HP Win 8.1 tablet that has a 32GB C drive. I had 10GB free and thought that would be enough but needed to free up another 6GB before it would finish the upgrade. I ran Disk Clean after the installation to regain the disk space. http://www.winbeta.org/news/windows-10-how-gain-disk-space-after-windows-10-upgrade-using-disk-cleanup

Your only option may be to do a clean install from a bootable flash drive. You will need an OTG cable, and at least a 3 port USB hub, and a backup of all your drivers.

Do a google search on how to do a clean install of Windows 10 from Windows 8.1.

Yea, you are probably right. Not worth the risk/trouble for a cheap tablet.

You can always try it and see what happens. I like 10 on my tablet and won't be rolling back.
