i want to upgrade to 2k... all ive heard is that i won't be able to upgrade to 2k directly.....if this is true, is there a way to downgrade to 98sec without ever having to format and do a clean install? if i have to do a clean intall i will just put 2k, but i am not looking forward to the installation time it takes for redoing 15-20 progies....(not to mention backing up of 10gigs of Mp3s)....

There is no true 'upgrade' path from ME to 2K, but if you insert the win2K disk, it will ask you about upgrading. This only saves DATA, not installed programs. Microsoft does this to preserve registry entries in 2K, whick is way more stable than buggy ME. If you want to do this, it will save all of the MP3s, but programs will have to be reinstalled.

NOTE: The upgrade does not erase folders out of Program Files, just doesn't impory old registry into new one. Reinstallation of software will keep most old settings if CFG files are not in original setup. Also, some programs like Winzip just need to be rerun from their Program Files location to reinstall. No need to load disks, it just updates the new registry.

If you should change your mind . . . I just finished two upgrades from ME to XP Pro . . .ended up perfect . .. LAN, CDRW, all programs and software fully functional.

What does W2K have that XP Pro doesn't?

I slapped the two on top of each other for a dual boot. I kept getting a dll error in me thought. but i fixed it by extracting the DLL fiel form the service pack download. You gotta use winzip for that but it solved it and it worked liek a dream ever since
