How to Update the Firmware for the LITE-ON 163 DVD (16x)?

How do I upgrade the Firmware for my drive under Windows XP?

I've tried it according to the instructions given but it doesn't seemed to have worked.

have first have to get a bootable floppy which you can get from bootdisk.com then copy the unzipped firmware file to the floppy & then boot from the floppy!

Are u serious? Lite-On mentions nothing of boot-disks on their site.

They say all you have to do is unzip the file into a folder, close all other applications and then run the program.

Have not heard of updating any FW(except modems) from Windows OS. Leave the file in a directory if ya wish, boot to a DOS prompt using a system disk, then go 2 that directory & flash FW. U can make a system disk in XP by rt clicking floppy drive icon & choose "Format", then choose "Copy System files"... BTW I have always flashed my LiteON DVD drive this way(I have W98).

having personally just updated the firmware on my liteon x16 a couple of days ago, you have to flash in pure dos!

Thanks for the advice guys... but if something goes wrong I will hold you responsible for a new drive!
