how to update gigabyte ds3l's chipset driver

hello everyone. just got done building my rig. saweeet!

running vista right now. i did install the chipset/audio/lan drivers from the gigabyte cd. however, went on their website and saw some newer drivers. downloaded the drivers. whats the best way to install these drivers. i noticed that they're .exe files. do i simply click on them and run? if so, it asks where to install it, is there a particular folder (new to vista)? or are these just zip files and i have to unzip --> go into device manager --> choose the device --> then 'update driver?'

they are self-managing packages, you just run the one ***SPECIFIC TO YOUR OS*** and it will take care of the rest for you.

but its asking me where i should install the files. is there a specific folder in vista for the motherboard chipset/audio/and lan drivers?

thanks

If you would read what it is saying, it is asking where the temporary files should be put (which can be deleted after it is done installing and rebooting), not the driver files themselves. I always use c:\temp or the desktop.

If you previously installed the Intel Chipset INF Installation utility and it completed successfully, running it again will not install or update devices that were successfully installed/updated by the last utility. It will only update new devices or those that did not successfully update before.

To update all devices, you must run Setup using the "-overall" switch. Click Start > Run, then enter the following command line using the path where you extracted the Intel Chipset INF Installer files:

C:\temp\infinst_autol\setup.exe -overall

That is the example path, replace with whatever your actual path is to Setup.exe.

tc, what i used for the original installation was the CD that came with the gigabyte motherboard. not sure which ultility you're referring to. when i go on the gigabyte website for my motherboard (ds3l), i see they have new drivers for my audio, lan and chipset. i downloaded these files and now i want to install them. from jaqie's info, sounds like all i have to do is double click on the downloaded files, specify a temp folder to store the temp files and i'm good to go. is that not correct?
