Say good bye to spyware now that I've found WMP 6.4 in my PC (Run, type Mplayer2)

I know MS "integrated" WMP7+ so how can I remove it?

well... you could make its presence sorta disappear by changing all the media file associations and Internet MIME types to Mplayer2.exe, and I guess do something to the registry to prevent WMP7 from showing up.

d00d, saturday night and you want me to *think*? ;) Anyways, as far as I'm concerned because I don't know you at all, you could be some dumb fsck who knows jack sh!t (Sorry, this is the effect of working in tech support for too long.... it forces you to assume the worst).

But anyways, now that we've established that you have XP, let's roll with that.

why not locate the wmp folder, delete the contents, and delete the wmp icon in your tray?

You cannot totally remove WMP 7.1 because....

WMP 6.4 and WMP 7.1 use the exact same 'engine' the only diff are the skins and functions that are extra in 7.1

Again for those that don't know.... WMP that comes on the Windows 2K and Win98SE CD has the exact same engine as the one that's available on the windowsupdate site.

(there were security updates done to it but the 'engine' is the same.)

ONLY the original Win98 has the older WMP 6.4 engine.

HOWEVER

Even if you install the original Win98 and If you install IE 5.5 or higher it will automatically update the WMP to the new engine even if it still says 6.4 or 7.1

Once you install IE 5.5 or higher you cannot remove the updated engine. The only way to do that is with a clean format and with the original Win98 CD and use IE 5.0 or lower.

In other words, if you have Win98SE or higher and if you have IE 5.5 or higher then it doesn't matter, just link your player to mplayer2
