First off, excuse the "stupid" question

So, here I go, how do you undervolt components? What I'm looking to do is undervolt my stock heatsink/fan so it spins at less rpm's

My rig is in my sig, any help is much appreciated

Edit: I am poor, I can't afford to get a new heatsink/fan.
 
well, you can rig up a 7v mod easily

+ on fan goes to yellow molex wire
- on fan goes to red molex wire
12v - 5v = 7v 🙂

otherwise you can rig up a variable resistor dealie and control the speed manually...

if you dont wanna do themod yourself (like chop up wires and all) for the 7v mod, i think you can find some places selling premodded molex adaptors that give you 7v

 
Is your CPU fan attached to a mobo header or a 4 pin PS connector? If it is on a mobo header, try out SpeedFan. Awesome program that can vary the speed of any fan connected to the mobo manually or based on a temp reading. It works with most mobos. The price is within your budget. FREE.
 
thanks oldfart, im using that right now, but it doesnt seem to work, my fan seems stuck at ~3400rpm, and put all the speed 01,02,03 settings at 50% but it doesnt seem to be going down :-/
 
My EPoX mobo was like that. I could see the speeds, but not control them. My Albatron, and a Gigabyte board I had work well.
