Must suck using an archaic O/S. Capslock + / + o = ø. On Android, it's long press for options, or modify key then above.

FWIW - OS X has similar awesome conventions for additional characters. And I love it.
But, IIRC, it lacks the very acceptable Alt + ### approach, and some heavily used characters are easier to get through that on Windows than it is to dig up character maps in the Unix-like systems. Only the most -- but not all -- common characters are mapped to the standard keys in said OSs.
And mobile platforms have an entirely different approach which is not comparable. They have a virtual keyboard, where you can hold a key to see all the other options. This is not repeatable with physical keyboards, not without pissing everyone off.
