Hey all,

My laptop keyboard shorted out a few days ago. I bought a new external keyboard which is working out fine. Unfortunately, though the laptop keyboard is still breathing signs of life, and ocassionally starts spitting out letters on its own, turning caps lock on and off, etc. Is there a way I can turn the onboard keyboard off, to avoid these interruptions? Thanks!

I don't know whether this will work or if you haven't tried it yourself, but did you try to disable it in BIOS or Device Manager.

The only way I'm aware of is to pul the keyboard and disconnect the cable. There's usually a removeable plastic strip across the top that covers 2 screws that hold down th KB.

Man, I'm amazed there isn't a software to do this... :(

I doubt many other people have a need for it.

Laptop keyboards are horrible-I would have thought more people would prefer using an external.

External yes, but it's a truly rare case where you need to disable the onboard keyboard.

i love the keyboard on my dell inspiron. im so used to it, i have a hard time going to my dekstop keyboard at home. its also over 3 years old and still working well. sometimes ill get double hits on keys, but thats not a huge deal. most of my probs are from my fingers, not the keyboard. is getting it replaced out of the question?
