How to transform an image background to transparent in Photoshop?

I have this image and it has a solid blue background.
How can I change the background to have transparent color in Adobe Photoshop?
I'd really appreciate if you would answer in detail.

i couldn't figure it out, but I wanted to do the same thing to put a picture into my powerpoint presentation without having a box around it.

It's a pretty simple operation in microsoft photo editor though, if you've got that (i can't remember off-hand but it took about a minute to figure it out).

Could use the magic wand tool, or do a Select ---> Color Range...or if you want it to be super accurate then use the pen tool.

Do Select -> Color Range

Then select the blue with the eye drop tool and play with the settings until it looks right.

if you jsut want to remove it:
select > color range > click on blue

then delete the selection.

if you want to make a gif with transparent background > open in image ready, hit the blue with the magic eraser.
