Thanks for the replies! And if I want to transfer without using inetrnet?
Jail break? I dont think idevices work the way you are asking without either the internet or some sort of intervention.

Right. I use Dropbox for this and it works fine - particularly for photographs.

Alternatively, you can use Apple's iCloud which works for photos ("photostream") and with Goodreader for documents and PDF's.

For transferring without the internet, for photos you can get the Apple SD card reader in the camera kit (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC...connection-kit), but this doesn't work for PDF's without jailbreaking.

Thanks again. So I take it that unless you are connected to internet, you cannot transfer files from PC to I Pad. Right?

I use a small http server (HFS from rejetto.com) to share a folder on my LAN, then I can browse and download the files from Safari. I don't use itunes and the iPad doesn't seem to have a USB mass storage drag and drop function like my Android devices.

Now you understand why people jailbreak their iOS devices.

At one time Goodreader would let you transfer numerous types of files to your (non jailbroken) iDevice including PDF files. I haven't used the program in some time so I can't say for sure if that still works but you might want to check it out.

To add, Goodreader is a fantastic app regardless of its transfer capabilities. I highly recommend it as a go-to reader app. I have it for my phone and tablet, but I've never tried the fancier transfer capabilities, but I recall that it has the ability to act as a server and accept data... I think.

The last time I used Goodreader, I just used USB file transfer which works with the "File Sharing" part of Itunes. You can also use WiFi transfer which is a little bit more involved but still works pretty well.

Real quick, because for some reason I think that this point got missed by the OP. How would you transfer PDFs and photos to an Android device if you didn't have the internet? I'm being serious and making a point.

So many roundabout suggestions in here when iTunes is the easy drag and drop way. Plug in via usb, move the photos and PDF's into the apps you want, and you're done.

Plug it into the computer and transfer it through Drag & Drop.

And that was my point. This isn't rocket surgery, just plug the darn thing in if you don't have internet access.
