How to test hard drive speed?

I recently installed an IBM Deskstar 30 gig ATA 100 on an Asus A7V. The access time seems slow. What programs or tests can I run to measure the speed? Also what speed should I expect?

 
HDTach, Threadmark, Winstone or Winbench would do. The former 2 are more HDD specific and would be better if you want to measure the access time..
