How to test burner?

Buslink (Lite On rebadge) less than six months old appears to be on the way out. Drive functions perfectly except for burning. It has started making lots of coasters and when a disc will actually load some (not all) of the tracs sound like crap. It blows my mind that some sound awful but others sound great. Nero reports that the burn was successful and reports no problems from the error check. IMO that only proves that the error check isn't worth crap because the disks sure sound awful and the source material is fine. I have tried Nero and Musicmatch and three different brands of media - nothing seems to work. The software and media perform flawlessly in another (older) burner in another machine and on the dvd/cd writer in the same machine. That seems to finger the Buslink (Lite On) burner as the problem. Anything else to try before replacing the drive?

Buslink (Lite On) dead. Xmas purchase so receipt gone with the wind. Replaced with $10 Ceyndine (unknown brand)48x12x48 Office Max special. That Lite On sure didn't last long! Thanks for the suggestions.

call the company and start a RMA. Retail packaged products carry a 1 year warrany.

Don't feel too bad, my friends Yamaha CD-RW died the other day and it was only 7 months old(Bought in November). It happens with all brands, there is always a few that go defective.

Like Sid59 metioned you should find out the warranty details as that drive should atleast have a one year warranty.

RMA refused. After being on hold for 30 minutes they claim I must have original receipt. This despite the fact that a sticker on the drive bearing the serial number and date of manufacture (Sept 2002) clearly establishes that it is less than a year old. The drive was a Christmas gift and I never had a receipt but they didn't care about that. I guess Buslink is one of those sleazy companies that will seize upon any excuse to screw a customer. Obviously they're not looking for repeat business. Lesson learned.:disgust:😱:disgust:

You should call again and see if you get a different rep.
