how to tell which codec to use?

I missed lost episode 10, so I downloaded a bt file...but it just won't play.

I loaded the file into gspot to find some info, but it just says unknown...is there another way I can find out which codec I need to play this file?

Gspot should be able to tell you which codec the file uses.

You could try installing ffdshow.

It's the only thing I have installed and I never have trouble with any video files.

Look for Divfix. Maybe the file is damaged. If it is a Divx file, then Divfix might be able to repair it. Maybe.
