You could work in Iraq and make a lot more money if you worked in construction or something like that. They fly you home every quarter and then your pay is tax free. Probably safer than being a soldier in Iraq.

If you join the military make sure you are learning some kind of Skill usable in the Civilian World. What do you envision yourself doing in the military?

I graduated with 4 D's and an F in HS. Went into the Army for 5yrs, got out - went to collage - graduated with a 4.0.
Joining was the best thing I ever did and I miss it to this day..... That was almost 20yrs ago.

What I think I might do is see how my Senior year goes. If I do well enough to get into a decent college, then I may wait until after college to enlist, or not at all. If I don't do well my senior year, however, then I'm probably going to enlist.

Bah. With a 3.0 you can get into George Mason University or something similar. Nothing great, but decent overall (it was my backup. I'm an HS senior BTW) From their you can transfer to almost anywhere if you do well. My advice: Apply high. I got into V-Tech, UDEL, Syracuse and RIT with a 3.3 (although I had a resume any engineering school would drool over for undergrad). Still, my advice would be to try to get into college. I don't know what its like yet, but I bet its better than HS. Try to get good grades Senior Year and take some challenging courses. I'm currently finishing up my 4 AP Classes.

Granted, its your choice, but like others have said, don't tell your parents your going to enlist until you have made a decision. I've found this to be true for other things as well, but thats with my parents. If ur 18 they have to respect your decision. If they don't respect it, make them. I've pretty much told my parents to GTFO of my academic/social life (I've literally had to tell my dad to shut up several times) and let me handle it. It took a few hellish months, but they listened at last.

In any case, stand by your decisions. This sounds cheesy, but speak the truth always, and accept the consquences of your actions. 2 axioms I go by.

Actually last time I checked I had a friend with a 3.5 GPA that got rejected by GMU (it seems after all the popularity it gained these last few months, its standards have skyrocketed), but you did have a resume that engineering schools would drool over (which I don't think is the case for the OP).

OP, all I can see from your posts is that you want to enlist to run away from your problems, so it's a bad choice. You don't enlist to run away from something, you enlist because you want to serve your country. All the people I have talked to who enlisted just to get free education or get away from parents or get their life straight, have told me that they had a miserable life after they got out of service.

IMHO,OP, get your sh!t straight first. You are still a kid. Being lazy, dissorganized can be fixed with some discipline on your side. I am not telling you to figure out what you want to do with your life (you are still quite young), but you have to start setting goals for yourself. Goals that seem feasible and that are important for you. Everytime you reach a goal, you aim higher for the next goal. As a final piece of advice, try working out a little bit first and then start doing it more frequently. This will give you energy and keep your mind free of negative thoughts (I am just saying this because it worked for me)

just my 2 cents
Regards

edit: Obviously UpGrD does not agree with my friends who went to the army (Good for him! ) :D
