How to tell if XP installation is clean, or upgrade?

I was given an IBM X21 and I want to find out if the XP Pro install is clean, or an upgrade from 2K.

Is there any way to tell?

reinstall it anyway, you can nef for ~30-45 minutes while it installs

I'm sure than an upgraded version has some files left behind from the old OS, however I wouldn't know exactly what those files are. Maybe someone in Tech Support or Software can better answer this...

I tried in the OS forum, but there is hardly any traffic in there

echo %windir%

if its been upgraded from 2000 it'll be c:\winnt. If its a fresh install it'll be c:\windows
(assuming whoever installed it took the install defaults)

xp will be in add/remove programs if it was an upgrade
