how to tell if cpu is dead...?

how can you tell if your CPU is dead? Does it make beep codes what?

If your system powers up and you leave it on for about 30 seconds, the cpu should be warm to the touch. But be sure to use the heatsink when testing, in case the problem is not the cpu.

I get beeps but i dont know if it's the CPU, ram, or video, or the motherboard (took some beatings)... i am hoping it's not the motherbaord although im almost 100% sure it is... but i just want to make sure nothing else is broken

i'm sorry oldie... but i had a dead Duron that's warm if i plug it on the mobo and leave the power on...

is there any other way to make sure if a CPU is dead ???
i'm curious too...

beep codes...usually that's the mobo trying to tell you something...
check your mobo manual for more info on the beep codes...

it could be something(dead CPU)...but it could be nothing also(loose connection on memory,VGA,etc)

check it out...

well.. so what owuld happen if you put a fried cpu into a motherboard? would it do anything? what happens?

my Dead Duron doesn't do anything to the mobo...
if i switched it back to my TBird my mobo runs fine no probs whatsoever....

since you stated the above... try reseating your memory or VGA...

stick the chip in a working system?

no beeps = mobo or chip is dead, otherwise otherwise you should get beeps

I get long beeps and there is 2-3 second pause between each,,, and it doesn't stop... (o dear)

i tried reseating and using different slots,,, unfortunately, i dont have anothre computre that supports ddr so i can't test it yet... i'm gonna go and test it on monday

Long beep in endless loop...no DRAM installed/ detected. Try reseating the DDR RAM or put the RAM in different slot.

i tried putting it in different slots and stuff too... maybe i cut off the connection with the dimm slots.
