How to surprise your girlfriend!

I was thinking of taking my girl and fly out to Chicago and watch a Musical like Miss Saigon or something and then have a candlelight dinner at some fancy restaurant before heading back. Of course this would be a surprise. I live in sfo so flying to chicago might be romantic. Expensive but effective maybe?

What do you guys think? What would you do to surprise your significant other.

I send her flowers when she least expects them. I'm a broke college student, so this has to do for now. She has also told me that I better not spend a lot on an engagement ring, but instead save the money for a down payment on a house.

just keep in mind that it is really cold in chicago right now. plus if you want to see a musical, do it right and go to nyc.

You might want to spend the night there.. otherwise you'll go stir crazy after being on planes for six hours out of your day, not to mention airport time.

doesnt sound like much of a surprise... "honey why are we at the airport?" unless you're planning on blindfolding her the whole way. But if you've got the cash and think it'll be worth it then more power to you. I have a suspicion that girls really like these spontaneous acts of kindness. (anyone care to back me up on this?)

and no...i dont plan to go right now but maybe sometime in may so the weather may be more agreeable.
