How to submit bug reports to MS

I've found an annoying bug in Win2k.

Basically, a file with an incorrect file-type extension will crash explorer if you browse to the directory containing it.

How do I contact the appropriate people? - I've given up trying to find anything on their website.

Contact phone support. Ask for the "perf" team and a grace case. Give them the steps to reproduce the error.

I'll try and reproduce the problem, If I can I'll put a bug in for you.

Not getting the problem. Give me some step by steps instructions - make them exact, pretend I'm somones grandma 🙂

OK.

This is for Win2k pro.

Browse to a directory containing image files - e.g. My documents/My pictures
Go to Tools menu -> Folder options -> General Tab -> "Enable web content in folders"
Go to View menu -> Thumbnails.

Find a file that is not a PNG file (e.g. Sample.JPG in My pictures).
Rename it so that its extension is PNG.
Close the window, and open a new explorer window.
Browse to the original directory and highlight the renamed file.

The Explorer window should now hang. Additional navigation with explorer is likely to be impaired - in particular image thumbnails will not display.
