How to stop the spamming?

I am admittedly one of the members who frequently posts about Ron Paul in the P&N forum. I will usually post a couple items per week. I am not, however, a spammer. I have been hanging around Anandtech since 2000 and have contributed to these forums in many ways. Just one example is the freebies thread. Like many others politics & Ron Paul are subjects that I am very interested in.
I post these things on Paul because I enjoy discussing these subjects with numerous other individuals here but people repeatedly come in and accuse me of spamming until one of the anti-Paul mods decides that the thread needs closing. Like anyone at Anandtech hasn't heard of Ron Paul already? Why would I spam here? It's ridiculous.
What can I do about this? It just doesn't seem fair. If I dislike someone else's threads I stay out. I would like to see mods pay more attention to those people flaming threads in P&N just because they disagree with the subject matter.

Here is but one example.
http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=52&threadid=2127979

This thread hardly even had any heated discussion. I see flamewars 10x worse then this thread every day. Yet someone decided to close it.

You don't get it do you? You have over 30 Ron Paul threads as I listed here.

There is nothing wrong with a Ron Paul thread, but we don't need a new one for every video clip, every dollar he earns, or everytime he appears on a network TV show.

People would take to it much better if you combined it into one thread, in a similar manner in which Dave did with his Gas & Oil thread, so there can be continuing discussion, and it would enable you to change the title and bump the thread everytime he gained that extra % point in the polls. And you could even give it a catching name like "Ron Paul: The Greatest Candidate Since Sliced Bread" or something.

Now, a major news/campaign event, take Ron's Tea Party for example, would probably merit it's own thread.

But that's just my 2 cents on the subject.

First of all not all of those are Paul threads. Secondly, you dug all the way back in my history to may. That's 29 threads in eight months! Since when is that spam? No. You say it's spam because you have your biases. 29 posts on the subject in eight months is in no way, shape or form spam. You are putting your bias out here on display for everyone to see.

Whatever; at least one of the mods agrees and has locked a bunch of your threads. That's clear enough for me.

And while we're on the subject. It would be nice if Mods were held accountable in P&N. It's to easy for them to take rash & unfair action when they are anonymous.

Let's assume this is true (since I bet it is) and you did in fact say you would consolidate your ass-kissing to one thread. Why didn't you follow through? There is no need for tons of threads on very similar subjects.

In all honesty, you are doing your candidate a disservice by making anyone who supports Ron Paul look like an ignorant moron.

I was using the thread but decided to have it closed for two reasons.
One was that even though I stated my intentions clearly & respectfully that thread was spammed just like other Ron Paul threads are spammed by a handful of individuals who can't control themselves. Secondly Atleast one mod look it upon themselves to interpret my thread as a commitment on my part to keep all my posts concerning Ron Paul in one thread which it most certainly was not. I was not about to give this mod an excuse to start closing all my threads which on an adandtech scale are few and far between.
Again I don't have "tons of threads" on Ron Paul. A few of you are blowing this way, way, way out of proportion. I have started about 30 in the last eight months. This is a fact and the facts speak for themselves. If I had created hundreds of threads or if I were even making one a day you could argue that I am spamming yet this is not the case. If it seems like more it's because some of them become very popular and hang around the top of the forum. That is of course until they are closed.

In all honesty, you are doing your candidate a disservice by making anyone who supports Ron Paul look like an ignorant moron.

Also your exceedingly neutral stance has been duly noted.

Who's anonymous? I sent you a PM from my personal account asking you not to flood that forum with Ron Paul threads. Jeez, why is it with you there's always a conspiracy. The only reason I talked to you about it is because we were getting numerous complaints about it.

Perry, if you would keep your Ron Paul posts within ONE thread, we would not be having this discussion. When you come across like a fanboi or zealot, this is exactly what you can expect.

McOwen was able to keep his threads consolidated even though he would get spammed, flamed.

Some of his information was useful:thumbsup:, others twisted:thumbsdown:, yet he complied with requests to not generate a new thread for every piece of news.

You and Ron Paul need to have a thicker skin if you wish to handle national politics.

Picking and choosing you battles for convenience will not improve your standing.

I *hate* the plethora of Ron Paul threads (along with the harassment associated with complaining about them).

Two threads per week about the same thing is absurd. It would be like someone going on the FS/FT forum and doing that to sell something. They would be banned within a week if that were to occur.

Perry404: You need to re-use your existing threads. Bookmark them or subscribe to them...you have options.

You have indeed been a respectable member over the years. I'm surprised you're willing to tarnish your reputation over a politician.

Why do we hold different forums to different standards? These threads obviously violate the TOS, along with the absurd response to any sort of discord regarding their existence.

I was referring to the few threads of mine that have been closed anonymously. Half of my threads would never even be at the top of the forum if it weren't for the handful of spammers bitching & complaining within my thread which causes others to come to my defense. And extends the threads life.

I will say again I have not flooded any forum. I have thirty posts on the subject in eight months. That is hardly spamming.

Heh, I just find it amusing that wherever a *RP* comes up, you're there like a gadfly posting your flames/spams.

Personally I'd like it a lot more if there were less RP threads... and less anti-RP spammers.

Your thirty threads equate to 1 per week.

Toss in another one per week (as it seems) from other RP fans and the forums now have two new threads per week plus the existing threads that are being kept active.

Seeing 2-3 threads on RP within the first 10-20 active threads starts becoming tiresome.

Woes me!

There are approximately the same number of Hillary threads that I have always thought were equally annoying yet I'm not complaining or spamming those threads. Also there are a great many ati threads in the graphic card section and pretty girl threads in OT.

What do you think P&N is for aside from communicating popular subjects?

There is nothing wrong with a Ron Paul thread, but we don't need a new one for every video clip, every dollar he earns, or everytime he appears on a network TV show.

So there were literally hundreds of stories this week nationwide on Ron Paul and how many have I posted this week? One? Two?

So saying that I posted one for "every video clip, every dollar he earns, or everytime he appears on a network TV show" ...is so totally exaggerated that I'm not even sure that it's even necessary to defend myself.

It sounds like what this group is really arguing is that these threads are too popular and the result of that is that they tend to stick around the top of the forum for some time longer then they would like. What a horrendous thing for a forum where people gather to communicate.

A few weeks ago I counted all the threads about politicians on the first page (default setting) and there were more threads about Ron Paul than every other candidate put together.

I think part of the problem is that you treat P&N as your personal 'spread the gospel' forum.

How ever P&N doesn?t exist for fans of one candidate to preach the gospel to fellow supporters, it exists so we can talk about political topics as a group.

If the Hillary, Obama, Romney etc fans all started threads as often as the Ron Paul fans did the entire forum would be filled with threads that are essentially fan boy threads.

Kudos to Pabster. He was starting a Hillary thread every second in seemed until he was asked to consolidate them. He has complied. For a while, though, he reminded us of you, Perry.

I must add, however, that he was never chastised by those who choose to chastise Perry. I wonder why that is? ;)
