Not a bad idea, but the person opening the envelope may not care enough to take you off the mailing list. I will give it a try though.

Mailing the company your junk mail or a brick or a dirty sock or whatever gives the employee whose time you just wasted NO incentive I can think of to do anything other than throw away your mail. If you want results, and not just to piss someone off, I suggest the following.

"The national credit bureaus offer a toll-free number that enables consumers to opt-out of all pre-approved credit offers with just one phone call. Call 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688) for more information."

use the postage-paid envelope that credit card companies send you with their applications to send them the OTHER junk mail you receive.
If you really want to piss them off, take Sophia's suggestion, and glue the postage paid envelope to a brick and drop it in the mailbox. :)

spread a little mayo on a piece of ham and stick in the envelope..and mail.
it should be good and ripe when it gets there.

or.. alot of this mail is probably opened by automatic openers..maybe put some duct tape over edges to gum up the machinery.

currently, CC companies run credit checks on you, then send you offers. These are called promotional credit checks, and don't show on your credit rating.

Anyways, you can have them take you off the list for promotional credit checks, so those companies won't be able to anymore. The number to call is 1-888 5-OPT OUT this take you off the list for all three major credit reportign bureaus.
