How to stop my Volcano II from Vibrating!!!

So are you guys saying that it has nothing to do with the fan, but its the heatsink design?? And thats really weird because some people say theirs are really quiet, but others are having their whole case shake because of the Volcano (like me damnit!!) Looks like I'm going to have to find another heatsink/fan. Does anyone have a suggestion as to the best, quiet, cooler?

nahh......it's the fan. I have the Volcano II, and doesn't vibrate at all! Take it out, and make sure the sticker's centered, so it wouldn't be cause weird centrifigal force. also check to see the blades are about the same shape/length. I have seen a Top Motors fan with one blade shorter (molding problem, and some worker shaved it abit), and ended up vibrating alot. if still nothing, unscrew the fan base, and look at the possible seam between it and Heatsink. If there's a gap even after securing it, use some Arctic Silver II to fill the gap alittle. 😉 It wouldn't hurt the cooling one bit, and could help cushioning them better.

Well if I hold the sides of the fan while it's running, and put pressure on it, the vibrating goes away. But when I take my hands off it starts again.

I know what you are saying Morjo. If I hold onto the fan it stops vibrating, but it starts up again when I take my hand off it. Its really annoying. I even took the whole thing off my processor, took the fan off, and then put it back together. That kinda helped a little, but it still shakes the case. I'm really hoping the new fan I ordered wont do this stupid vibrating stuff. I'll keep you guys informed when I put it on.

I got a Sunon, 60x25mm, 23cfm fan (from www.crazypc.com). Its not the most powerfull 60mm fan, but I want to be able to sleep at night with my computer on. I would never want to put up with the noise of one of those Delta "Black Label" fans. I'm hoping the new fan is good enough to allow my Duron 750 to overclock a little bit, and also I really hope it doesn't make the case vibrate!

There seem to be two seperate problems people are experiencing one with the fan causing vibration and one with noise caused by the heat sink fan connection. The problem I have is definatly caused by the fan and some kind of unbalanced situation with the rotating blades. I can hold the unmounted fan in my hand and feel the thing shaking.

Hey Morjo, my new fan is on its way. Its supposed to get here in a couple days, so as soon as I get it I'll put it on and tell you guys if the vibrating has stopped. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Well, I just got my new Sunon fan today, I put it on the Volcano II, and no more vibrating!!!! Its amazing the difference!! When I first put the Volcano on with its defult fan, it shook so much I could feel the case shake when I put my hand on top. After taking off the heatsink and putting it back on it took some of the vibrations away, but now with the new fan, there's nothing!! I'm not sure if this fan has the same cooling power as the old one, but it doesn't make as much noise and no vibrating, so I'm happy. By the way, I got a Sunon, 60x25mm, 23cfm fan (from www.crazypc.com).😀

I just thought I would say that I also got some Arctic Silver II, and an unlocking kit from crazypc.com. Hopefully after I unlock my Duron 750, and then use some Arctic Silver II, I'll be able to overclock it a little bit. We'll see.
