The bloody fan keeps on making a vibrating noise. I heard there was a way to make the vibrating go away. Does anybody know how to?

Cheers!!!

i think one of your fins on your fan must be broken, my coolermaster 6H51 vibrated like a dog on a hot summer day:D, till i traded my globe brand 80mm fan for his Panaflo 60mm, no more vibrations.

I have two of these fan. One vibrates, the other does not. The one that vibrates seems to be an early production unit. The mounting surface of the heat sink is not smoothly finished where as the newer one is. I was thinking of taking the sticker off the fan blades os it is slightly excentric and may be causing the vibration.

When a volcano begins to exhibit seismic activity it's getting ready to erupt. Stand back!

Good point Antony,

the sticker on my Volcano is off center, and it does seem to make a low level throbing sound. I'm going to pull that sticker off.......

hmmmm my volcano doesn't vibrate. Just the faceplate in the back vibrates against the parallel port which makes this annoying rattling noise. You sure its your volcano thats vibrating?

I had a similar problem. Here's what it was for me:

The noise is caused by the two-piece aluminum assembly. The vibration from the fan causes the two pieces to rub together rapidly causing the strange noise you are hearing. The way I fixed it was to apply some glue at the clip point of the two pieces of aluminum. I used superglue on a recommendation from someone else on this forum, but because of how superglue works it might have been better to use something like epoxy or maybe silicone glue.

I had this same problem and got this answer from these forums. Worked like a charm! It's my turn to give back.

i have a vibrating alpha pal6035 with a ystech fan

my heatsink has a metal lid on top, then the fan goes on top of the metal lid. the lid prevents the fan from coming in direct contact with the heatsink prongs.

my unit makes a really bad rattling noise. the fan is secure....but could i be that metal cap rattling? how can i stop it?

thx in advance

You guys might want to check out this article. It talks about using a cauking (sp?) to make the connection between the heatsink and the fan instead of screws...reduces vibration alot and from what the author is saying makes a Delta fan bearable

Quieting the Delta 38CFM Fan

do NOT remove the sticker.

the label is to cover the hole used to lubricate the fan. you will kill the fan if you remove it, dirt and debris can get it.

you can use rubber washers to keep some balance... if you had a pic, we could help you more.

DO NOT, REPEAT DO NOT USE SILICONE GLUE INSIDE OF YOUR COMPUTER! AS A PART OF THE CURING PROCESS IT PUTS OUT ACEDIC ACID VAPORS WHICH CAN CAUSE CORROSION!

Thanks morriswindgate, I didn't know about corrosive vapors with silicone glue. I've used it on things like fish tanks with no problems. There's still superglue and epoxy...

But that makes me wonder. I know that ethyl cyanoacrilate (superglue) gives off some pretty heady vapors as well. Are these not as corrosive?

Quad, I had read that Volcano II uses an almost identical design to another HSF. It might be the pal6035 design. Thermaltake is known for "borrowing" other manufacturer's designs.

I just put together a computer with a Volcano II, and the damn thing vibrates too!!! It vibrates so much, the whole case shakes!! Its really annoying because it's making a low rumbling noise. I ordered another fan so I hope that fixes the problem (the new fan is a Sunon, 60x25mm, 23cfm). By the way, what kind of temps are people getting with their Volcano II?? I have a Duron 750, and its running about 39 C right now according to MBM. Thats with the crappy fan, and the defult TIM. When I get the new fan, I'm going to take the whole thing off, and apply some Arctic Silver II. With that set up, could I reach 1 ghz with my Duron 750? Or do I need a better heatsink and fan?

Okay, now that's not what I had. The thing wasn't vibrating such that it shook the case. That's really not normal.

Well with mine, I get an idle of around 37 and full load of 45.
BTW I have a Duron 800MHz and 1 case fan.

The quality control on these things seems to be pretty bad. I guess that is how they sell them so cheap.

Put me on the, "vibrates like a mofo list". D@mn thing drives me crazy. I put the side back on my antec sx830 case and it actually rattles the lock!

I'll be taking it off and trying the superglue thing tomorrow.

I bent the metal plate which actually attaches to the fan so that it was bowed slightly upward in the middle (flattened when I mounted the fan). Used some superglue gel along the flange area of the heatsink. Got rid of quite a lot of the noise, but was still too much. Put the Volcano's fan on a Taisol heatsink and she quieted right down. I think a good part of the problem has to do with the clip and the Volcano heatsink itself. Mine is now in someone else's machine. :) But, I'm still using that fan.
