Wow...stupid noob bumps almost 20 year old thread for first post...
It's a spammer trick. They do silly searches, make silly posts to test the board system, then come back and make another post with a spam link. Or edit their first posts and add a spam link somehow related to the topic. Maybe a memo writing software thing in this case.

Hey all, this summer my company will be opening our tech support center. We'll be starting with about 8 staff on at all times, but we're using all our manpower at all times so we dont have someone patrolling around watching all the computers.

One thing I am very worried about is employees just playing games and when a call comes just letting someone else take it, because they're in the middle of their game. I was wondering if there were any programs out there that could let me remotely monitor all the monitors? Or something of that sort to prevent them from playing on my paid time.
To prevent them from playing online games, you can set up a proxy server between your internet firewall, and the local swithes/routers. In the configuration files of the proxy server, just block websites that are game related.

You can prevent employees from playing local games by first removing any pre-installed games from the computers before the first day of work. After doing that, only give the administrator account installation privileges. This way the employees would not be able to play local games, as they would not be able to install them via their employee accounts.

Establish a zero-tolerance policy & enforce it.

Block all the common games sites (Yahoo games, etc.).

The key is set the rule & enforce it.

Viper GTS

Blacklisting is a loosing battle, whitelist instead. Only allow specific programs to run, block everything else.

Things have changed so much. At my first job out of college we had Doom loaded on our server and even the boss played during lunch.

Thread's nineteen years old and the OP hasn't logged in here in ten years.

Do we actually care about this anymore? ;)

Thing that annoys me is when the "ATOT-bot" in one of its many guises has the audacity to actually post a new thread. Bumping old ones can be amusing.

We did a mass uninstall of all the Windows games at my workplace once, as per instruction from the IT manager. First person to complain was the IT manager himself lmao. I guess he wanted it to be off everyone's computer, except his lol.

I have to admit this thread got me too. Was starting up a response when I decided to go check out the last page and lo and behold... massive necro.

It would actually be kinda fun to have a real "Nostalgia Bot" churn the boards maybe once a month and bump the most active/most viewed thread from that month 20 years ago to the top of the board or something.

I miss working at a company that was cool enough to let you play games at work. Haven't been at one for over 20 years.

When I read this thread, I noticed two things:

1) How many draconian IT department assholes this forum used to have :)
2) What a waste of some perfectly good GeForce 3 Ti200's.
