How to stop my CD drive spinning up?

Whenever I go to save a file or open my documents I get a lengthly pause while my CD drive spins up so windows can see what is in it - is there not some way I can turn this off so it only spins up if I actually click on the drive?

Is that the only solution? It's not adequate. I've been playing NFS underground all week and havent needed to put any other cd in the drive, hence it's staye din there all week. I'm not going to take it out just to stop this problem.

get a no-CD EXE file so you don't have to have the CD in the drive.

honestly there is no other way around it as far as I know.

unless you get ghetto, like unmounting the drive or something in the administrative tools... and remounting it later on... that's all i can think of.
