I'm interested in starting a new (hetero) adult website with a particular niche. I'm very serious. Can someone suggest where to begin looking for how to start this up, particularly how to advertise to get the talent?

I'm thinking that market is very much saturated by now, but you can always try....

Do you have content available? Custom content? Streaming video? Webcams? Will you be needing payment processing etc? You have to have some pretty serious bucks to start processing payments for an adult site since the credit card companies know there will be a lot of potential chargebacks etc.

There are plenty of hosts out there that allow adult content, but you'll want to go with one that specializes in it -- they have a lot more insight into the pitfalls and possible issues you might need to look out for.

Oh, and pics? ;)

the first step is to seek out webhosting that allows adult websites
the second step is to aquire the pictures/videos (wether you take them yourself or by using free galaries)
the third step is to put them on the website, you can use a template which would make it fast and easy
the fourth step is to advertise
...
profit

edit: you'll also hae to set up some kind of credit card system for payments and what not.

you could also sell sex toys or have advertisements for sites that do

have fun!

I would email the site owners of some websites you "really" like and ask them how they got started. I would also look at who the established adult hosint companies are and email them to find out costs.

Building a website is the easy part. Its the marketing and getting traffic driven to your wbsite that is the hard part. I even think content is easier than getting people to it.

Step 1: Find a webhost that:

-Allows adult sites
-Can manage a payment system/e-commerce system
-Can handle high volume/traffic
-Is experienced in adult sites

Without a good webhost, NO website, adult site included, will succeed.

1) Why is the payment system included? Isn't that usually seperate?
2) Finding the right webhost is a more technical thing, it shouldn't come first - budgeting, ok, that should, but not actually choosing one. Yes, I'd agree it's very important, without a doubt, but not the first thing you should do.

You should first be worried about funding you need, finding the actors, getting good cameras, video editing, having a solid business/marketing plan and model, etc. Along the way you have to make the right choices for everything, web hosting is just another one of those :)

I like the Netflix idea, not sure I'd want to touch a porn DVD that someone else had their hands on.

I used to live in the san fernando valley aka porn capital of the world. I heard from people that worked in the industry (was actually called by a headhunter for an analyst position at a porn/gaming company). The porn industry is VERY shady. They deal with cash and they move money around to avoid lawsuits etc. If this is your cup of tea then go for it.

I'm not giving away the idea.

I liked the idea about a porno YouTube. That's a technological niche. Mine's a content niche.

Thanks for the warning. But what is shady about it? I thought porn was a legitimate business.
