Which iPhone do you have, and what iOS version is it running? You can find the version in Settings -> General -> About -> Version

Deleting old apps probably doesn't make a huge difference, and neither will force quitting apps from the multi-tasker. iOS is hella-aggressive about cutting off apps in the background, so it'll keep the most recent few, but past that it's just saying "hey, you were using this recently... ish"

As tsupersonic asked, what iPhone, and what version of iOS.

im guessing you or someone in the family updated the OS on the phone.
now, your phone is running much slower than it was before the system update. this is apple's way of reminding you to get a newer iphone.
and no, there is no way to revert the system update (unless you saved a blob file). SOL, thats all i can say.

Without knowing phone model or os there may be the option of jail breaking. Doing this you can add some small tweaks that make things in the interface move and seem faster. If the phone itself is struggling with animations and apps are slow to open not a whole lot that can be done.

You could also try a clean wipe and update. Again though knowing what phone you've got will help.

One note: iOS 9 should, in theory, be much better on older iPhones. The company has shifted from its previous strategy (designing for the latest iPhones and cutting back features to make it work on more devices) to one where it designs a common OS that works well for everyone, and scales up from there. That and there's a few optimizations that should help.

I'm guessing you do not have the most up to date software on your phone. Update to that and free your ram of programs that run on the background. That will help speed up your phone.

??? This is probably what slowed it down in the first place.

What is "recently"? In the last few days? Weeks? Months?

I have the same device, running iOS 8.4, and haven't experienced any slow downs at all. I DO have issues with RAM, but because the phone is still fairly fast, it's just inconvenient and not infuriating (i'm looking at you old work laptop).
