How to Size a Radiator

How would I go and find how big a radiator might need to be to cool an engine?

Engine in question is the 05 GSX-R600. I cant seem to find dimensions of the stock radiator.

When he says ~8 bent center. What is he saying? The stock radiator is bent like a V, but not sure how to relate 8cm?

I believe he's talking about how the radiator is bent back in the middle, so the front tire doesn't hit it when the suspension is under full load.


What exactly are you doing? If this is for a cart or whatnot I think you'd be best off with an actual radiator from a gsx-r, so you have the least amount of surface area for drag purposes.


I would think that even the smallest car rads are going to be much larger than the factory radiator

Also try doing a google image search.. it's sort of shaped like a triangle as well.

You might try finding *any* supersport 1000 radiator.


Do you know for sure that the temp sensor isn't in the rad? It's usually at the thermostat on bikes, but if it's in the rad you'll have to have a bung welded on to whatever you use.

It is for an FSAE car. Also he did not mention how thick it is, but Ill try to find a bike and guess.

Hmm.. I did some reading about fsae cooling systems and it looks like the radiator that came with the motor generally doesn't work well in these cars, since you can't duplicate the same ductwork housing that the bike uses (basically a 'tunnel' directly into the radiator)
