How to shield CRT monitor from interference?

My Ehiem pump interferes with my Philips 109P CRT monitor, making it shaky badly like a dyling fluorescent tube. I figured out the interference is in the form of rapid changing magnetic field of AC motor. I wrapped some layers of Al foils around the pump and this does help, but only to certain extend. Any suggestion to get of it completely?

Are you sure that the pump isn't sucking too much energy from the power circuit? This was a problem with me at work with a monitor and a laser printer which was sucking a lot of power.

Oops. Aluminum will not shield a magnetic field. To shield against a magnetic field you must use a magnetic material. Try sticking the motor in a coffee can or get some iron or steel sheet metal from a hardware store. You might also try to ground the motor in case it's electrical interference. Contact the manufacturor.

Yes Al doesn't do much. I dropped a "tin" can on the pump now I don't see much interference now.

The best material for magnetic shielding is an iron variant called mu metal and is of a particular grain structure. If you have access to old surplus electronic equipment, you might find some being used as sheilding for a CRT in an old spectrum analyzer or oscilloscope. If you are restricted to what you can get at the sheet metal shop use the softest iron you can find.

I block interference between my 27in TV and my 19in monitors with a side panel off of a PC ... its not like im ever gonna put the panel on the pc or anything ...
