Hi everyone, once again I need your help. I finally managed to network two computers and share a cable connection. Now I need your help to share my epson(stylus pro) printer.
I have it hooked up to computer a. When I try to print using computer b, I get an error message which says "out of paper". Its obviously not out of paper, or "cannot open file". I installed the same drivers on both computers. I enabled printer and file sharing on both computers. There is an icon of a blue hand holding the printer. I don't know what else to do? Anybody have any ideas?

COMPUTER A
AMD 1 gig tbird
abit kt7a-raid motherboard
256 mHz pc133 ram
plexwriter 12/10/32a
pioneer dvd
soundblaster x-gamer
ati radeon 64ddr vivo
win98 se

Computer B
Intel p233mHz MMX
Intel 430 TX motherboard
128 SDRAM
cd-rom
sound blaster 16
matrox millenium 2 mb
diamond monster II 8MB
win98 se

P.S. Thanks for all of your help past and present, it is much appreciated.

For file and print sharing, there are 2 boxes: one for sharing files and one for sharing printers. You check both boxes for the computer connected to the printer. You only check the "sharing files" box for the other computer.

When you turned on file and printer sharing for Computer A, did you set a password for the printer? You don't install the printer software with the CD that came with the printer on the second computer. You go into network neighborhood and if the printer has sharing enabled, it should show up. Right-click on it and choose "install". If you set a password for the printer, you have to enter it now. If you didn't set a password, it will start installing the printer driver files onto your second computer.

At this point, you should be able to print from Computer B. Try a test page. Hopefully, it should work.

I have windows 2k so this is what I did:
To connect to a printer on a network

Open Printers.
Double-click Add Printer to start the Add Printer wizard, and then click Next.
Click Network printer, and then click Next.
Connect to the desired printer by:
Searching for it in the Active Directory.
Typing its name using the following format, or clicking Next to locate the printer on the network:
\\printserver_name\share_name

Typing its URL using the following format:
http://printserver_name/Printers/share_name/.printer

Follow the instructions on the screen to finish connecting to the network printer.
The icon for the printer appears in your Printers folder.

Notes

To open Printers, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
If you are not logged on to a Windows 2000 domain running Active Directory, the option to Find a printer in the Directory will not be available.
Connecting to a printer using its URL allows you to connect to printers across the Internet providing you have permission to use that printer.
If you cannot connect to your printer using the general URL format above, please see your printer's documentation or contact your network administrator.
You can also connect to a printer by dragging the printer from the Printers folder on the print server and dropping it into your Printers folder, or by simply right-clicking the icon and then clicking Connect.
After you have connected to a shared printer on the network, you can use it as if it were attached to your computer.
.....this is straight outa the help index so its accurate.Goodluck.

Win2k is cool because you can map the printer as a web link and manage it from a web interface as well :D

For Windows 98, make sure your workgroup names are EXACTLY the same for both machines. I have seen this cause many sharing problems. If they are, rename them both and reboot. This will cause a "refresh" of the tcp/ip files. Go to Start | Find | Computer (or goto nethood) and your share should be there.

Also, be sure your "shared" printer name has no spaces in it.

It looks like it works, but Microsoft's 32bit interface has some holes in it (big surprise) and spaces cause problems. Use an under_score if you must add space.

good luck

If you're using Win98SE you can run the Microsoft install printer wizard on the remote pc and capture the shared printer to the lpt1 port. Also make sure you're using the drivers from Epson and not Microsoft.

The Stylus Pro normally has a complicated procedure for network sharing due to their spool manager program and the errors you're getting usually occur when the spool manager on the remote pc is not setup to use the network. The above procedure works for Win98SE but for 95 and 98 you need to follow the Epson docs on printer sharing.
