Wireless basic Configuration:

Put the computer with the Wireless Client close to the Wireless Router (It is to insure that distance communication will not interfere with the initial configuration).

Disable all software Firewalls (including Windows ICF).

Disable WindowsXP Zero Configuration. It was not devised for Entry Level consumers Hardware, it has to be set Off.

Make sure that the drivers are set to infrastructure mode and obtain IP auto.*

Router's DHCP On.*

Make sure that the Router does not have any MAC or IP filtering on.

Disable WEP on both devices.

Set the SSID and channel of the Router and the Client card to be is same name.[/b]

*Note Static IP will work too if set correctly.

If you lose the connection from distance, but it works well from close by.

May be this can Help.

Usually your router will act as your gateway and as such your setup should be like

Cable Modem > Router acting as gateway > All PC's in range
