how to setup two routers for only one IP address

Hello Everyone,

I posted this in technical support but i think this section is more suitable.

Recently i've been able to use my old computer again. the problem is that my router is located in my lobby since the active computers have only been the laptop and my desktop (there is no phone jack in my room which is my my computer is being used as wireless)

Yesterday i connected my old computer and started it up and when i tried using my old router with it, the other router disconnects from the internet so bye bye wireless. I have to use the router in the lobby otherwise the signal wont reach my room. I dont want to buy another wireless card :/ and running a Ethernet wire from the lobby to the old pc's room is going to look ugly 😛.

Is there a way of making the two routers work with each other? or something else i can try. Thanks!

Depending on the type of routers you have, it may be possible to setup one of the routers as an AP.

You need to cascade two router. I am assuming you have one router with antenna and one without antenna.
Log into to one of the router and disable DHCP, then match both routers IPs with same domain. (192.168.x.x)
Connect LAN to LAN from router to router should do the job!

actiontec dsl modem/routers are not very flexible. the one downstairs is not the problem, it is the one you want to plug your old computer into. It will not act as a client to the other.
