How to setup FTP/Game server behind network?

I'm wondering how I can setup a FTP or game server on a computer on a network and let people acces it from the internet.

I know the easy way would be to just install it on the computer with the internet access, but there's no space on it's hard drive.

I heard about setting specific ports, but I don't know how to do that either.

I'm planning on using G6-FTP Server (I've also got WSFTP LE, but I don't think that can be used as a server), and the Half-Life dedicated server (the seperate download, not the built in one).

Any and all help is greatly apreciated

What OS is on the web connected system? You could probably install proxy software on it, and port forward to the system that you want to host the game server.

Win98SE, that's all I've got. Win2k would be nice, but I don't have the money to burn. Internet connection is Road Runner Cable.

Like I said I know nothing about this stuff, so if you could link a website or something, it'd be much apreciated.

Also, to route trafic, I'm using SyGate (if that's helpfull at all)
