this is probably a real dumb question to many here, but i am asking anyway. How do i setup a network?

I want to set one up in my house. I have 4 computers which i want to connect ( i have another that be server if needed)

I am homeschooled :D and that would be the purpose of me setting this up, i would like to have it where i could have a folder (Say its called "school") and inside it would be sub folders such as everyones names....(i have sisters and brothers) so then everyone puts there work in there folder, i want to be able to share printers. and programs as well. how can i do this?

If you could help me i would very much appriciate it, like i always do when getting help from fellow AT'ers ! :)

BTW: All computers already have internet access, they are all connected via WAN (wireless internet) I am using a Belkin Wireless router/ wireless cards

There are several tutorials on the 'Net. Even the most rudimentary search via google will turn up enough to keep you reading for days.

Do you have Win2K or WinXP installed on all four systems? If so, and to the extent you already have the PC's configured for Internet access with a wireless router and wireless cards, turn them all on and fire up the network installation wizard on each. Post back here after the dust settles.

You want to share Ahh?

Important For the purpose of the initial setting, disable all software Firewall (including WinXP native
ICF); disable any active Virus scan or any other utility that might intercept Network Traffic.

The following Collection of Links might help:

If you are not concern about internal security WinXP has a fast simple method of sharing, no user permissions and no passwords.

Windows XP Simple File Sharing

WinXP Pro has an additional more secure method:

Windows XP Professional File Sharing.

XP File Sharing Trouble

Win98 Sharing:

AanadTech - FAQ. Networking and sharing between computers.

I'm new to home networks too. I just set up my wireless network and am sharing my printer out but the rest of the network isn't able to see it. So far I've been following Anandtech's guide but it doesn't go too much into detail. Any ideas or suggestions on what I need to do to get my printer seen on the network? And yes, it's turned on ;)

UPDATE: The printer is visible now. I just changed the share name to "Printer" and voila, there it was :)
