How to set up wireless WEP keys in GPO?

Summary:
How to switch users from using Intel ProSet to manage their legacy SSID w/ WEP to using Windows Zero Config w/ both legacy & new SSID's automatically?

Detail:
Some of our sites are still using WEP for wireless encryption (believe it or not) over 802.11b AP's.

We're in process of upgrading encryption from WEP to WPA2 & from 802.11b to 802.11a/g AP's.

One immediate challenge we have is how to keep both networks in parallel and make this transparent to the end users.
We can't cut all floors over at once, but need to do one floor at a time because users move from floor to floor.

We were able to roll out the new network / SSID in Windows Zero Config through GPO, but learned that we can't do the same for the legacy SSID - setting WEP keys isn't an option in GPO, at least according to the server admins.

Does any of you know how we can do this in an automatic & transparent fashion?

So far we've been using sneaker net to switch users from Intel to Windows, & configure WEP keys in Windows, which is taking up way too much time.

its been a while since i've used GPO to push out WZC networks, but from what i can remember you should be able to set the key. have you referenced ms technet?

i found the whole system very quirky...it just wasnt designed to scale to that size. ive since been using the odyssey client with fantastic results 😉

Thanks for looking that up.
How about switching from Intel Proset to WZC?

So far we've had to physically (or remote in) visit every PC, right click on the Intel Proset icon in system tray, and select "use Windows to configure my wireless network".
Is there a way we can automate this process? through logon script, GPO or Altiris? We haven't had any luck so far...

thanks

as for Proset vs WZC, the former should have an optional IT Admin tool that enables you to create and push wireless profiles, drivers/application settings, and updates. have you looked into this as an alternative to the GPO solution?

if you're set on WZC, you may be able to use this tool to change the current wireless settings of your clients. alternatively...

1) i dont have any proset software to test with, but if you enable the WZC service (via command line in your case), does the ProSet software recognize this and disable itself to avoid conflict?

2) unfortunately i couldnt find any proset command line opts...however you could force an uninstall via this method. whether it takes the drivers with it or not i couldnt tell you.

3) can you find any reg keys that you may be able to edit and change the wireless behavoir of the proset software with something like a vbscript?
