How to set up RC5 in Win2000?

Hi.

I am not a member of TA RC5 🙁 but I am a member of TA SETI 🙂
I have been cracking for the Aceshardware RC5 Hardware Network for almost 2 years now, and although I have considered joining TA, I am committed to helping the RC5 Hardware Network make the top 50! 😀

I hope I can get some help here. I need to know how to set up RC5 in Win 2000 so that it runs all the time (ie at the login screen, and with different users logged in). I am quite new to the world of NT, so I don't know too much about setting something up as a service, but I'm willing to learn 🙂 I have 2 866MHz PIIIs that are waiting to get cracking, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

as far as setting up RC5 in Win2k is considered it's fairly easy to do. Firstly, make sure that you are logged in as an administrator, then get the client on the machine with a dnetc.ini or configure it on the PC manually (doing it for 2 years already I assume you are fairly fluent with this part of the job 🙂)

Next thing is to install the client as a service. you can do that by running it like so.

DNETC.EXE -install

Then run

DNETC.EXE -svcstart

to start the service and that's it, yer all done 🙂. The client then should start no matter who is logged in or even if no one is. you can then log out and leave it to do it's thing.

So basically, I just run the DNETC client with the following parameters, and it should be running all the time from then on?

With those parameters, dnet will run as a service. By default, the service is set to automatic (it will run whenever the OS starts up). The first time, it will be off since the OS wasn't restarted. Thus, you have to go and manually start the service using the second command.
