How to set up dual WAPs?

I'm toying with different ideas for wireless coverage. My parents have a 2-story condo with a basement. I can't get complete coverage with a single router (believe me, I've tried!). I am going to be installation a gigabit wired network later this year and I'd still like to have wireless capability. I figure if I set up a WAP on the second story and a WAP in the basement, that will give me complete coverage. Currently the WAP is on the second story and covers most of the first story as well as the second story, but not the basement. So going with the dual WAP idea (I have the hardware available already), would the easiest thing to do be to give them the same SSIDs/encryption types/passwords so that laptops can join either WAP? I'm not quite sure how to approach this one...

You can either get two linksys repeaters or get 2 WRT54Gs V4 or lower, or a buffalo WHR-G54S if that is easier to find(keep in mind I haven't used the buffalo, just the wrt54gs). With the two repeaters, just plug them in and it should be trivially to setup if you go to their web config pages. To configure both of the routers, you need to install dd-wrt and setup a wds. Personally, I would go with the two routers because they are cheaper. Just remember with each repeater/router, you double the latency and cut bandwith in half.
