I want to set up a user in my Windows XP Pro system so that I can access my shared folders from another PC. How do I set one up so that they don't show on the Welcome screen?

Or is there another way to access shared folders without having to set up a username corresponding to the user on the remote system? That is how I set up my Windows 2K system.

The remote system can be running any flavor of Windows.

There should be several entries below that key already, make sure you have the right path.

Yes, I have HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrrentVersion\Winlogon. Below this I have 'DomainCache', GPExtensions' and 'Notify'. My question was if I need to add the key 'SpecialAccount\UserList' below 'Winlogon' and what values should I put in it.

Go here and download the PowerToys for Windows XP.

The TweakUI program will let you select which user names to display on the Welcome Screen or not. You will not need to edit the registry and can change many other settings as well.

Try turnning off the welcome screen in user accounts. That will get rid of that screen all together.

I have TweakUI and PowerToys. I can't however, find where in TweakUI it lets you select which users to show on the Welcome screen.
Thanks

Once you create the user name and password, etc in computer management/local users

Go to the TweakUI program and highlight LOGON. In the window to the right there will be all users with check boxes that say:

Show "Administrator" on Welcome Screen
Show "Whatever Name" on Welcome Screen

Just check the box or uncheck to show or not show. That's it. :)

Cheers

Thanks. I had an older version of TweakUI that only showed "Always show Administrator on Welcome screen" with a check-box when I highlighted Logon!
That's why I was confused.
