My display settings box doesn't allow me to set the refresh rate. So, if I change the resolution will it automatically optimize the refresh rate, based on the monitor model?
Thanks..

Be warned. Exceeding a monitor's maximum vertical refresh capability, even if by only three Hz can destroy said monitor. It's best to do this so that the monitor will die three or four weeks beyond the expiration of its warranty. Oh yeah.

OK, but I don't see WHERE I set it?? Do I just set the res in windows, say to 1024 x 768 and then the refresh rate will go to the optimum number, say 85 Hz (the monitor I am considering buying has 1024x768@85)?

Until about 2 weeks ago, I'd just have plugged it in and gone on my merry way without setting the resolution, let alone the refresh rate... (In fact that's what the current situation is..)

I'm really a newbie at this.. Is there a FAQ somewhere on all this video stuff?

I haven't tried powerstrip yet.

Thx

U should also have a tab in ur display window with a video card that u are using. u can adjust the refresh rate there. I dont know if it works or if it will damage ur monitor but i know its there, so someone put it there to for a use. BTW u can also adjust the color of ur picture witht the video card settings. Just right click on ur desktop and go to properties. U should see a tab with ur v.card neme on it if not go to settings(alo a tab) and advanced(buttom left corner).

Forgot to mention about damaging it. It should go to the optimal resolution by default but the monitor may support a couple hz more (optimal is 85hz but it can goto 88hz). You wouldn't notice a couple extra hz and it would be best to just leave it.

Check the manual or manufacturer website for the max refresh rates.

Nada. I only had the settings tab but NOTHING about setting refresh rates. I clicked into every area

The video is a Rage Pro Turbo AGP 2x - its what came installed in the PC 18 mos ago.
