how to send link to new tab in firefox?

when I click on a link, I'd like a new tab, instead of a new window....does anyone know how to do this?

right click, open in new tab is not an option...

Tools --> Options --> Advanced --> Tabbed Browsing

you can set it to open a link in a new tab in the same window.
