How to sell your video card for 3* of what's worth

u know what, it might be fail on my part now that i googled, there IS a version for mac that isn't much different, but you do need specific that to run on the mac... prob a win on nvidia's part.

So... the seller stated the buyer needs to inform him whether it will need to be used in EFI32 or EFI64.

I realize the newer Mac Pro models allow greater compatibility with PC-specific GPUs, at this point is it as simple as having the right drivers? Something more that is required?

I want to do this, I have an old GPU of a similar model that I could sell. 😀

But of course. Slap the name Mac on anything and it's automatically costing you 300% of what it's really worth.

Wrong. The Apple name adds value in and of itself, and therefore justifies the extra cost. You see, companies like Dell and HP do not add value to a product because they do not have the exquisite design and build quality of Apple products. Everything Apple makes, even down to something as simple as a phone charger, has been well thought out, and designed for maximum performance and usability. You will not find this level of attention to detail in any PC product. This is an aspect of high performance computing that PC users are simply not capable of understanding. Everyone knows this.

but but but I heard Apple uses the exact same internals as a PC. That's can't be true cus a Mac is so much better than a PC so the internal components can't be the same. The commercials told me so.

Not everything my friend. The Macbook Air is beautiful, but for all intensive purposes it's useless.

I dont get it

It appears that someone on ebay is selling a 8800GT to Mac users for more money than the seller would get if it was sold to PC users by flashing the ROM/Firmware on the card with EFI compatible firmware so it will run on a Mac Pro.

Personally, if I had a Mac Pro I would not buy a card modified in this way because of compatibility issues but to each his own.

I am not sure I understand most of the comments in this thread though. MacPro users have always paid more for less when it comes to video cards. When you don't sell a lot of hardware with a unique platform (EFI based motherboard) you pay more for video cards. It is not exactly breaking news.

The parts are similar, yes, however the difference lies in the quality of manufacture. You see, PC users just settle for whatever garbage is given to them. Mac users, on the other hand, expect nothing but the highest quality components. What this means is that all parts in Macs are the cream-of-the-crop components from hardware manufacturers. They perform better, last longer, and look better. This is what it takes to earn a place in an Apple product, anything less is not tolerated. Everyone knows this.
