I have a nice new duplicate lens in an unopened box, received as a gift that I don't want to return because I can't do so without the giver knowing. It was sold through an authorized Nikon USA dealer and when I say unopened box I really mean it - it's plastic wrapped in its original packaging. How should I sell it?

This is a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED, available from Amazon for $796.95.

I've never liked selling on ebay because of the high rate of fraud. What's the right way to sell this lens online?

You can try Craigslist, although I've never sold anything worth more than $500 on there. When I transitioned to FF, I sold two lenses and an old camera body on CL and everything went smoothly. You just have to deal with all the lowballers and potential scammers.

+1 for Craigslist. I just sold my D600 and 16-35 f/4, each for over $900, with no issues. The lens took a while to get a buyer willing to pay a price I was happy with, but it worked out in the end. Just be sure to meet somewhere public; I typically go with a local coffee shop.
