Question.............

Noticed the plugin site looked like it was for FireFox, so no-go for me.

Next, I used keepvid.com but no icon for the file.

Next, d/l'd flvplayer, but no-joy still.

Next, d/l'd good old-fashioned K-Lite full.............(I always untick their media player for WMP..........no biggie really, I'd just rather use one player for everything).

Well, still no icon and I couldn't tell what kind of file that youtube is using. Soooooooooooo...........I decided to "open with" and selected Windows Media Player.

IT PLAYED!!!!

Now, why hasn't windows given the file an icon then?? (Still no icon for it even though WMP is now playing it with K-Lite)

????????

TIA

Sometimes I have to change the filename from "getvid.html" to "whatever.flv", but KeepVid works great otherwise.

Just found this on Demonoid in a post authored by someone named ConwayT. :

(ignore the words "preventhyperlink_"

QUOTE:
theres another way to download yourtube videos
right click on the page then click "view Source"
and the press ctrl F (control find) and then type 450
and you will see the full address for the video and then
add this at the start of that code
preventhyperlink_http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=
eg.
("/player2.swf?video_id=_O0Do0idci8&l=143&t=OEgsToPDskLybEahu8mXlvHgbxCn8CD8", "movie_player", "450", "370", 7, "#FFFFFF")
and then copy this part
_O0Do0idci8&l=143&t=OEgsToPDskLybEahu8mXlvHgbxCn8CD8
and then add this: preventhyperlink_http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=
preventhyperlink_http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=_O0Do0idci8&l=143&t=OEgsToPDskLybEahu8mXlvHgbxCn8CD8 and then send that link to yourself in an email
[or paste that link directly into browesr-scott],download it
then at the end of the file name change it to a flv
and then use FLV player to watch it on your pc
http://www.download.com/FLV-Player/3000-2139_4-10467081.html
this may sound hard but its not
