I would like to try 1024x768 in games instead of native 1280x1024 on my Dell 17" monitor.

But I don't want the blurriness from interpolation.

How do I center it?

(I'm assuming I will end up with black borders of some sort)

I know what you are talking about, but I dont think its possible. It has more to do with the video card than the monitor actually.

on laptops its often either a bios setting or a graphics driver setting, for you I bet its somewhere in your graphics card drivers, disable rescale or something like that

On my Samsung 191T I have the option in OSD(normal, expanded 1,expanded 2) ,800x600 etc looks awesome in centered mode, too bad the image size centered is not that big.

Btw if you have an ATi card, make sure "scale image to screen size " is not ticked in displays tab via ATi Control panel.

My brothers IIYAMA LCD can also do centered mode via OSD.

I have 9700Pro card using 3.6 drivers.

But I can't see that option anywhere.

Look in the displays tab, click on the monitor icon (fdp part) and you`ll see it.

Thanks for the help.

I found it....and unchecked it.....but it doesn't have any effect. When I select 1024x768 in a game....it still takes up the whole screen.

Must be a DELL thing. :disgust:

My hitachi cml174 17" does the same thing. i'm too tired to search for why it does it but i know it's been brought up before. currently i don't think there's any way around it.

I have a Hitachi CML174 same as canman and it has no effect for me either. Perhaps its because your using the DVI connector as opposed to the Analogue one?

I`m using DVI on my Samsung 191T and can use centered mode for non native-res,I think it depends on the LCD model in question.

After further testing and research it appears my situation is hopeless.

For my next monitor and system I will definately keep this mind.

Playing games in 1024x768 on my 1280x1024 monitor isn't really bad at all in fast action games........but some of the text in certain games is noticeably blurrier....but in those games framerates are not a major factor....so I can just stick with 1280x1024.

So I will continue to use 1280x1024 on my desktop and in games that are slower paced with some reading involved. I will just use 1024x768 for HL2 and Doom 3.
